Shark Tale: Versace's Squalo Sneakers
It’s said that inspiration is everywhere, and that certainly seems to be the case for Versace. The latest line of sneakers from the Italian house has its starting point in, of all things, the great white shark. First seen on the runway of the Fall/Winter 2019 Versace Men’s show, the Squalo (which means ‘shark’ in Italian) draws on the anatomy of the powerful ocean predator as impetus for its design.
The unisex sneaker is crafted of a mesh upper finished with fine leather detailing and 3M highlights. The bi-coloured outsole features sharp contours that mimic the tines of a great white, and the lateral side of the toebox is marked with white embellishments that also resemble teeth. As a celebration of the brand’s heritage and craftsmanship, the leather details highlight Versace’s signature top-stitching, while the house logo is embroidered on the tongue, and the iconic Medusa motif is hidden in the outsole.
The Squalo sneakers are available now at the Versace boutiques in Paragon and the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands
