An Exploration of Masculinity at Versace Men Spring/Summer 2020
A life-size Lamborghini crashed into a lush wall of flowers was Andy Dixon's centrepiece creation at the Versace Men Spring/Summer 2020 show. Dixon, who had already made his creative genius available to Donatella at the last Salone del Mobile, welcomed the guests of the show held in the gardens of the legendary street 12 of Via Gesù. The inviolate sanctuary was a heavenly ode to Versace under Gianni's reign.
This season, Donatella chose to play with the virility of the Versace man in an unconventional way that fit right with the times. The Gascon-type motor machismo let its more feminine side bloom, through visuals of sensitivity, vanity, and whims: the iconic prints of the brand crush the accelerator towards the fuchsia nuances of the oleanders, while the skin mingles with animal prints.
But that's not all: Donatella has in fact decided to dedicate the collection to her friend Keith Flint, the Prodigy frontman who died last March, as she infuses the collection with an impressive rave charge. Clad in studded leather and tie-dye fabrics, neon-haired models embody the liberating essence of those years in a sonic and stylistic plasma that inevitably ends up making its mark.
