10 Of The Most Stylish Looks At The 56th Baeksang Arts Awards

As countries around the world slowly ease up on lockdown restrictions, the annual Baeksang Arts Awards (otherwise known as the Oscars of South Korea) proved the adage “the show must go on” to be true. Honouring outstanding achievements in film, theatre, and TV from the past year, the 56th edition of the awards ceremony was held last Friday under rather unusual circumstances.

Although the event delivered the expected dose of glitz and glamour, it still wasn’t spared from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The show took place without a live audience – only invited guests, press reps, and the production crew were allowed in the venue. And while the actors and actresses present didn’t wear masks, they were seated in accordance to safe distancing protocol in a setting not unlike an examination hall.

But even that could not dampen the celebratory spirit of the evening. Led by hosts Suzy Bae, Park Bo Gum, and Shin Dong Yup, the stars turned up dressed to the nines to toast the lineup of honourees. Bong Joon Ho’s highly-acclaimed Parasite continued its winning streak with the Grand Prize, Best Film Award, and Best New Actor Award for Park Myung Hoon. Popular K-drama series When The Camellia Blooms scooped up four accolades, including the Grand Prize in television and the Best Actor Award for Kang Ha Neul, while The World of the Married bagged several awards too.

The red carpet also served up a number of winners: Suzy Bae donned not one, but two jaw-dropping Dior looks, IU positively sparkled in a silver Gucci gown, Kim Da Mi chose a floaty, semi-sheer Fendi number, and Gong Hyo Jin paired a chic Burberry blazer dress with glittering Piaget diamond jewellery.
