Stevie Nicks Revisits "Edge Of Seventeen" In New Song With Miley Cyrus
In an extremely pleasant surprise, music legend Stevie Nicks has collaborated with Miley Cyrus on a new song, "Edge of Midnight", which dropped, appropriately, at midnight last Friday. A mashup of Cyrus' recent single "Midnight Sky" and Nicks' 1981 hit "Edge of Seventeen", the duet coherently blends '80s rock with today's pop, and even opens with the iconic guitar intro of Nicks' original track.
Back in August, Cyrus admitted on the Zach Sang Show that parts of “Midnight Sky” were an homage to Nicks, whom she has idolised for many years.
"I actually had ['Midnight Sky'] blessed by Stevie Nicks, because there is a kind of nod to 'Edge of Seventeen' in this song," Cyrus said. "So I actually reached out to her directly about — 'This song, it has your spirit, your magic'. I actually wrote this whole kind of message about, 'You know, the kind of artist I want to be is the kind of artist that you've been for me. I just hope that I can be that for other people'. And when I've felt lonely, Stevie Nicks has been there for me, whether she's known it or not."
Nicks’ response? She reportedly told Cyrus that she “could not be more flattered.”
"Midnight Sky" is the lead single to Cyrus' upcoming studio album, Plastic Hearts, due out on November 27. Arriving after the pop star underwent vocal cord surgery last year, the record will include 12 original songs alongside Cyrus' live covers of "Heart of Glass" by Blondie and "Zombie" by the Cranberries.
