Legendary Celebrity Hairstylist Oribe Canales Dies At 62

He leaves behind a legacy including his eponymous line of hair styling products and celebrity clientele including Rihanna, J.Lo and Meghan Markle.

It’s a sad day for the world of fashion and beauty. Legendary hairstylist to the stars Oribe Canales passed away on Monday, 17 December, at the age of 62.

Known professionally as Oribe (read: Or-bay), his career spanned more than 30 years and during that time, he shaped many celebrity styles, most notably defining singer Jennifer Lopez’s signature look. And more recently, he manned the mane of 2018’s most famous woman, Meghan Markle.

On his résumé, he worked on countless runway shows and campaigns, and collaborated with industry icons like Helmut Newton, Gianni Versace, Francois Nars and Annie Leibovitz. He also worked closely with supermodels Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford.

The hairstylist also created one of the most desired hair care brands in the world, Oribe. Among the products, its Dry Texturizing Spray, launched in 2010, promises textured threads with a natural look – think "chic without the effort". The product is so successful that one spray can is sold every minute in the world and A-listers including Kate Moss, Cher and Lady Gaga are also fans.

Emily Ratajkowski paid tribute on her Twitter: "Rest in peace, Oribe Canales, I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work and get to know you, the King of Hair, the King of Miami, the best smile."

Jennifer Lopez took to Instagram remember the hairstylist: "For the next 10 years, I spent with Oribe on my side - either waking or working." We fell in love and travelled the world together ... He loved beauty and wanted women to feel beautiful and sexy. and imperfection, I saw how interesting it was. He was a real artist. "
