3 Organic Hair Treatments to Try This Month
Aveda Pramāsana Scalp Care
Inspired by the ancient Indian healing art of Ayurveda, Pramāsana is Aveda’s newest scalp care treatment (starting from $138) that uses naturally derived seaweed extract, tamanu oil and lactobacillus to cleanse, balance and nourish the scalp.
Treatment breakdown: Under the watchful eye of Jeric See, the director of Jeric Salon, my treatment started with a relaxing shoulder massage using the peppermint-scented Cooling Balancing Oil Concentrate, a crucial step in all Aveda treatments. Next, a gentle scalp massage using the Pramāsana exfoliating scalp brush to loosen any impurities and increase microcirculation, followed by the Purifying Scalp Cleanser to gently detox my scalp, thanks to the exfoliating properties of wintergreen derived salicylic acid. As the finishing touches, the Protective Scalp Concentrate and Nourishing Scalp Masque were applied, leaving my scalp feeling refreshed and healthy.

Kérastase Aura Botanica
After years of suffering from eczema and psoriasis, it takes a lot for me to trust my hair and scalp with anyone else. But with June Ng, founder of J’s Salon, I knew I’d be in good (capable) hands. A trained IAT trichologist, she first analysed my scalp to identify any pressing problems, then recommend the Kérastase Aura Botanica treatment ($298) for a healthy mane.
Treatment breakdown: Seated in the Hair Spa Room, I was first treated to a hand massage and a cup of wellness tea. The treatment began with the nourishing Essence d’Eclat (containing jojoba, avocado, coconut, argan, sweet orange essential oil and Damask rose water) lavished on my hair. Next up, the Concentré Essential was applied to tame frizz with jojoba and avocado oil. The highlight of the treatment? Having my hair washed using the Bain Micellaire, a silicone and sulphate-free clarifying solution left my hair feel instantly lighter and more manageable (quite a feat considering how it usually reacts to the humid weather). As the final touch, Soin Fondamental, a creamy but lightweight serum laden with coconut, argan and sunflower oils, was applied generously onto my tresses. After that intensely relaxing, two-hour treatment, my hair felt so smooth I couldn’t stop caressing it.

Physia OE Scalp Aromatherapy
Since 2011, Ecorganics been quietly but determinedly leading the charge in eco-conscious beauty. Translation? Only non-toxic, paraben-free products allowed within its four walls of this boutique hair salon. It offers a seven-step Physia OE Scalp Aromatherapy treatment ($188) which promises to alleviate problems such as dandruff, scalp sensitivity, oiliness and even hair loss with a blend of naturally derived essential oils. As a long-time sufferer of dry, sensitive scalp, this hour-long relaxing treatment was exactly my scalp was calling out for.
Treatment breakdown: My therapist started off by applying the Physia OE Acid Lotion, Pure Detox Essence, and Dermo Protective Fluid to thoroughly cleanse and decongest my scalp. The key step of the treatment was the Detox Essence ampoule, followed by a lymphatic drainage head massage to control sebum and rebalance the pH levels of my scalp. Following a wash with anti-dandruff shampoo, a serum and anti-dandruff essence were applied before a brisk blowdry that gave me perfectly bouncy tresses. A few weeks on, my scalp remained noticeably less irritated, with nary a fleck of dandruff. Bonus: if you fancy the calming scent of eucalyptus, tea tree, sage, bergamot, and geranium, this will be also be a treat for your olfactory senses.
