Breitling Debuts the Navitimer 36 and 32 in a Campaign Starring Charlize Theron
The Academy Award-winning actor's journey from South Africa to Hollywood A-list embodies the strength and elegance of the chic new sizings.
Renowned as one of the world’s most famous pilot’s watches, the Breitling Navitimer has transcended its origins as a navigational instrument to become a symbol for those making their personal journeys through life. This emblematic undertaking is showcased in the “Navitimer — For The Journey” campaign, which stars members of the Navitimer Squad like basketball wunderkind Giannis Antetokounmpo, principal dancer Misty Copeland, aviation pioneer Bertrand Piccard — and now, Academy Award-winning actor Charlize Theron, as the face of the new Navitimer 36 and 32.
Each member of the Navitimer Squad shares their incredible journey to get to the top of their respective fields, using powerful visuals and personal narration. “My journey has always been about being up for any challenge,” says Theron. “I travelled from South Africa to Los Angeles when I was quite young and both that physical journey and the journey of being open-minded and ready for new experiences has served me well personally and professionally.”
Theron’s elegance and strength wonderfully represent the chic new Navitimer sizings, which combine with pops of pastel, mother-of-pearl and traceable precious materials to give the classic tool watch a more jewellery-like aspect. The 36mm features the signature beaded bezel and circular slide rule (used by pilots as an analog calculator), and comes in a trio of metallic dial colours (mint green, silver and anthracite) or a mother-of-pearl dial set with round-cut “better diamonds”.
These so called “better diamonds” are part of Breitling’s bid to do better, and are found in the brand’s Origins label timepieces. The gemstones are lab-grown and traceable to accredited producers who have achieved the SCS-007 Sustainability Rated Diamonds Standard. Similarly, the full-gold version is crafted in “better gold”, sourced from artisanal and small-scale mines that meet the Swiss Better Gold Association’s stringent criteria for social and environmental impact.
The Navitimer 32 forgoes the slide rule in favour of a simplified dial design suited to its slim profile. Nevertheless, the small watch packs a big punch thanks to its radiant mother-of-pearl dials in powdery pink and light blue — a first for Breitling — along with the classic white. Like the 36, all the models carry the Origins label.
The Navitimer 36 is powered by the COSC-certified automatic three-hand Breitling Calibre 17, while the Navitimer 32 features the supremely precise Breitling Calibre 77, a SuperQuartz movement with 50m water resistance that has the added distinction of being COSC-certified.
