All aboard! The Rick Owens express is set to roll into Milan Fashion Week today.

When it comes to Rick Owens, only one rule applies: expect the unexpected. From sending male models down the runway fully exposed to stacking bodies to form human backpacks, the iconoclast always marches to the beat of his own drum. Which is why, when Moncler came calling, the designer decided to do something radically different. Namely, a road trip with partner Michèle Lamy from Los Angeles to Nevada – in a custom Moncler tour bus and bespoke puffer ensembles, no less – on a visit to artist Michael Heizer’s monumental land art project, City.

“I was kind of thinking about Joseph Beuys traveling to the U.S. from Germany in the seventies, landing at JFK, being wrapped in felt and taken by ambulance to his N.Y. gallery to live with a wild coyote for three days in his installation I Like America and America Likes Me, and then going straight back to Germany the same way…”

Matte black on the outside with an all-grey interior and a bedroom insulated in Moncler’s nylon duvet, the tour bus rolls into Milan today, where Owens will reveal his full collaboration alongside Genius designers like Simone Rocha, Hiroshi Fujiwara, and JW Anderson. The vehicle will be available through custom order following the presentation, while the ready-to-wear pieces will launch later this year in Moncler and Rick Owens stores as well as online.
