Solar Power: Dior Unveils The New Oblique-Embroidered Solar Sneaker

Playing up the heritage Oblique motif, this slip-on style makes plain the Maison’s virtuoso savoir-faire with its elaborate needlework, which requires hundreds of thousands of stitches to complete

Maria Grazia Chiuri cites Marc Bohan’s three-decade-long tenure at the helm of Dior as the era she identifies most with, so it isn’t too surprising that her own incumbency as the Maison’s creative director should foreground one of Bohan’s best-known creations: the Dior Oblique monogram. Having adorned every imaginable offering from pouches to ponchos to eyeshadow palettes, this season the iconic motif is reprised on the new Solar slip-on sneaker, albeit with an artisanal update.

In line with the juxtaposition of the refined and the relaxed that defines Chiuri’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection, the Dior Solar showcases a fully-embroidered, Oblique-patterned upper in plush velvet — each pair entailing over 150,000 fine stitches — contrasted by a simple, sleek rubber sole inscribed with the house name on the heel and engraved with a star on the outsole (a good luck charm held dear by Christian Dior himself).

Finished with a padded collar and lateral stretch inserts to improve its comfort and ease of wear, the sneaker comes in three fall-ready colourways (bronze, burgundy and blue) and makes an excellent addition to your day-to-day footwear rotation.
