Salvatore Ferragamo Dives Deep Into Its Archives for Pre-Fall 2019
Salvatore Ferragmo’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection is all about exploring the its essential elements of craft, innovation, ingenuity and passion to create a collection that enables an assured and defined personal style.
Sparked by the Italian house’s past, its archival designs are balanced and reworked with artistic references – women’s creative director Paul Andrew took inspiration from Italian mannerist painter, Agnolo Bronzino, while menswear design director Guillaume Meilland turned to American expatriate composer, Paul Bowles.
“We’re telling a very modern story for men and women who are equals, who recognise something of themselves in each other, but who at the same time are compelled by each other’s differences,” said Andrew. “We use heritage and history as a starting point for a dynamic wardrobe we want to serve the women and men of tomorrow.”
The collection delivers a wardrobe of dynamism with tailored coats, a cashmere overcoat reworked from a 1980’s design, and elongated pieces – some beautifully printed with adapted florals, plaids, and chains.
PF19 also sees the debut of a new handbag based on a 1960’s archival design that’s been repurposed and made more versatile with a concertina opening, adjustable strap and top handle. There are also those head-turning clogs where the wooden base represents humbleness and its form exudes a sense of sophistication.
