At Onitsuka Tiger, An Outdoor Renaissance For Spring/Summer 2021
As far as Japanese luxury label Onitsuka Tiger is concerned, it's time to get reacquainted with the great outdoors again – in style. Cue the "Onitsuka Tiger attitude": an ode to land, sea and sky as seen in its Spring/Summer 2021 campaign. And the message is strong and clear in the collection's offerings, too. While the cinematic campaign video sees sandy dunes in place of runways, the models are also decked out in designs from the collection's four themes as envisioned by creative director, Andrea Pompilio. Think: structural puffer jackets, sporty maxi dresses, vibrant co-ords and playful polo dresses fashioned into four themes: "The Sailing Kite", "The Clean Lines", "The Vintage Is Now" and "The Working Progress". The collection's ode to the outdoors is also seen in its finer details. With pieces featuring details inspired by sailing ships, expect elements such as washer finish fabric and nylon twill detailing.
As with all things Onitsuka, one can also expect a fashion-meets-function factor. The season's footwear selection takes inspiration from the label's much-hyped archive. While the line's "ACROMOUNT" and "DENTIGRE MX" models take cues from the past, its "DENTIGRE STRAP" and "TAI-CHI-REB™️ SOCK MT" prove to be futuristic counterparts. Alternating between thick, chunky soles and sleek, light silhouettes – these kicks are as versatile as they are stylish.
And what better way to see Spring/Summer 2021's most hype offerings in action than on Thai superstars Davika Hoorne and DJ Push? Aptly titled "A Game That Two Can Play", L'Officiel Singapore's 14th anniversary March issue sees the pair in a vibrant outdoor pool party complete with a standout colour palette to match. Featuring hints of turquoise, yellow, orange, sax blue and beige, the consensus at Onitsuka Tiger is clear: even the biggest stars are in on Onitsuka Tiger's outdoor renaissance.
