Michael Kors Collection Fall 2019
At Michael Kors Fall 2019, the designer transported a sea of editors, influencers, and celebrities back in time—the 1970s to be exact—with a collection inspired by the iconic Studio 54.
Models paraded down the runway showcasing over 70 looks, each taken straight from our wildest, cocaine-fueled disco dreams. Floral-printed dresses peeked coquettishly out from under robust military and shag fur-style jackets. We saw ourselves wrapped up in faux feather boas in shades of vibrant violet and forest green. There were sequins galore in the form of slinky, Halston-esque, and bias-cut dresses, while flashy lamé numbers with billowing sleeves, in shimmery gold and silver tones, had us ready to channel our inner Farrah Fawcett. Kors showed us a funky take on the tailored look, with models donning glittery sharp suits that sparkled as they strutted by.
The designer brought us back down to earth with brown corduroy outerwear over chunky turtlenecks, as well as oversized knit berets and time-honored aviator sunglasses, with the quintessential bell-bottom jeans of the decade making a cameo appearance for the men. In celebration of Studio 54, Kors featured looks adorned with its emblematic logo on a sequined T-shirt dress, a full-body puffer jacket, and silky smooth blouses.
Aside from the pieces Kors presented, he also impressed with a diverse casting of models. While runway regulars like the Gigi and Bella Hadid were present, models like Anok Yai and Sohyun Jung also made up the roster. Newcomers Kukua Williams and Joaquim Arnell embraced their naturally kinky curls, which accompanied the decade theme to a tee. To close the show, supermodel Patti Hansen was all smiles as she made her return to the runway in a gold metallic trouser suit.
The show ended with a bang as Barry Manilow emerged from behind a black curtain and performed his classic number, “Copacabana,” while the models danced beside him, revealing their most far-out moves. Kors’s presentation left us feeling nostalgic for the height of ‘70s fashion, with us ready to leave the show wearing the grooviest pieces from the collection.
