Mesmerizing Runway Images from Tom Ford Fall 2019

Tom Ford, the master of glamorous grandeur, settled on simplicity for his Fall 2019 Ready-To-Wear collection. The ensembles felt soft—which seems to be the new direction Ford is going in following his presentation last spring—as we saw what felt like business-on-top, party-on-the-bottom ensembles making their way down the runway Wednesday night: button-down blouses and scarves, paired with silk trousers and peep-toe pumps in materials like velvet and glitter.

Ford stated post-show that this collection was a response to the negativity in current American culture, and that his design process was a search for security. While the collection didn’t by any means play it safe, it was certainly more understated than Ford’s previous work, putting emphasis on the sleek and polished.

The women’s suits were a staple of the show, notably Gigi Hadid in the red velvet tuxedo that nodded to a previous creation by Ford for Gucci. Also claiming honorable mention were the simple black hoodies layered under blazers and bomber jackets because nothing says secure like an oversized sweatshirt. Lastly, it wouldn’t be a Tom Ford show without a bit of excessive glamour, and that’s exactly what spectators got as the show came to a close with a handful of silky column dresses embellished with chunky chain details and rhinestones.
