Nina Kaginda on Her Marseille Adventure for Chanel Cruise 2025

Hi Nina! How was your experience travelling to Marseille for Chanel’s recent Cruise 2025 show?

This exciting adventure with Chanel marked my first visit to Marseille. Of all the times I’ve been to France, I’m surprised that I had yet to visit the second-largest city in France. What I found sets Marseille apart is its distinctively laid-back atmosphere — a refreshing contrast to the hustle and bustle of Paris. The city's old port definitely adds to its charm and allure, offering a glimpse into its rich maritime heritage.

Attending fashion shows is not something new to you. What did you find especially memorable about this one?

The beauty of Cruise shows is definitely because of the destinations. Marseille's unique position as a major port city has shaped its identity as a vibrant melting pot of cultures from around the Mediterranean and beyond. What was particularly memorable was the dynamic atmosphere where the rich history of different traditions, languages, and lifestyles converged, which creates a pulsating environment at the crossroads of contemporary cultures.

Tell us about the show look that you decided on.

Inspired by the port, my styling focal point was the scarf I wrapped around my head as an ode to maritime heritage, accented with a Chanel Matryoshka Doll Minaudiere bag, which is a custom piece. These were paired with a purple sequin vest, with my white boots from last year's California Cruise collection, which have a cheeky light feature.

What were your favourite things about the show or looks from the show?

It was a little disappointing that the show had to be indoors as Marseille was faced with awful weather on the show day. However, despite the weather, the collection still stunned inside the building. I absolutely adore the yellow co-ord set, the stylish CC embellishments on the denim jumpsuit, the CC sling bag and the perfectly accessorised wrap-around pearl CC belt. Virginie's talent shines through in her ability to seamlessly blend elegant and classy elements with a chic and youthful vibe, creating looks that are truly brilliant.

Are there any accessories from the show that you want to own right now?

I got to get my hands on the wrap-around pearl CC belt and CC metal mini sling bag.

Any places you would recommend we must visit when we’re in Marseille?

You have got to check out the historic Old Port (Vieux Port) for its bustling atmosphere and waterfront charm, the iconic Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica for panoramic views of the city and the sea, the vibrant neighborhood of Le Panier for its narrow streets and colourful buildings, and the MuCEM (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations) for its fascinating exhibits on Mediterranean history and culture. Lastly, do give the Calanques National Park a shot for its stunning coastal landscapes and hiking trails.
