Miu Miu Celebrates 6 Style Icons With New Denim Capsule Collection

That seems to be the thinking behind Miu Miu's new capsule of jeans, which celebrates the most democratic item of clothing in fashion. Aptly named the Denim Icons collection, each of the six models is inspired by the decade in which it was created, and named after the woman who best embodied the style of that era. Covering the years between the 1940s and the 1990s, Miu Miu has dedicated the designs to fashion icons Lauren Bacall, Brigitte Bardot, Françoise Hardy, Jane Birkin, Brooke Shields, and Kate Moss.
One of the biggest names during the Golden Age of Hollywood, Bacall was among the first female celebrities to wear trousers instead of skirts, and the Lauren jeans is an iteration of the classic '40s work garment - boot-cut, high-waisted, and made in heavy, dark blue denim. For blonde bombshell Bardot, on the other hand, Miu Miu imagines an ultra-elegant silhouette, cut at the ankle to recall the capri pants that the OG BB loved to wear.
Having given a voice to the youth of the 1960s rebelling against capitalist culture, Françoise Hardy is reinterpreted as high-waisted and straight-legged white denim jeans, while singer and actress Jane Birkin, who shot to fame in the midst of the flower power era, is paid homage with a low-slung pair of light-washed flares.
The decade of unbridled hedonism and of breaking taboos, the '80s are referenced in the model named after Brooke Shields, unisex and skinny in the exact shade of dark denim that was popular back then. And of course, you can't talk about '90s fashion without mentioning Kate Moss, and we can certainly picture the supermodel in Miu Miu's loose, comfortable pair of Kate jeans.
