Italian Brands Unite To Fight Against The Coronavirus
The fashion industry continues to amp up the fight against the coronavirus. Following generous donations by Dolce & Gabbana, the Armani Group, Bulgari, Etro, and Chiara Ferragni, now it is the turn of the Carla Fendi Foundation, Donatella Versace, Sergio Rossi, and more to step up to the plate. Italian brands are proudly declaring their love for their homeland, and thus inspiring fans to do the same.
Born in 2007 in tribute to one of the legendary Fendi sisters, the Carla Fendi Foundation aims to support the cultural heritage of Italy in the areas of fashion, art, literature, cinema, and the environment, and it has donated €100,000 to the intensive care department of the Presidio Sanitario Columbus Hospital in Rome. The hospital is the second hub in Lazio to be designated for the treatment of patients who have contracted Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Donatella Versace and her daughter, Allegra Versace Beck, have donated €200,000 to the intensive care unit of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. The designer announced her decision on Instagram, saying "In times like these it is important to be united and support however we can to help all those who are in the front lines, fighting every day to save hundreds of lives. This is why, Allegra and I have decided to make a personal donation of 200,000 euros... Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected by this disease and to all the doctors and medical staff who have been working heroically non-stop in the past weeks in the effort to take care of our loved ones. This is when we, as a society, need to stand together and care for one another."
Edizione Srl, the holding company of the Benetton family, has donated €3,000,000 to support the projects and urgent needs of four hospital institutes in a concrete contribution to the emergency resulting from the spread of Covid-19 in Italy. The donation will go to the Ca' Foncello hospitals in Treviso (the city of origin of the Benettons), Luigi Sacco in Milan, Lazzaro Spallanzani and the Agostino Gemelli polyclinic in Rome which, together with many others of the national health service, are fighting on the front line every single day.
Colmar has also donated €100,000 to the intensive care department of the San Gerardo Hospital in Monza, near Milan. In just a few days the entire entrepreneurial fabric of Monza was mobilised as part of the Brianza per il Cuore fundraising initiative, a historic non-profit organisation from the region.
Elisabetta Franchi has launched a fundraising campaign via GoFundMe. Carrying the slogan SE VUOI PUOI (if you want, you can), the campaign was kickstarted by a personal donation of €50,000 from Franchi herself, and all donations will go to supporting Italian hospitals in this state of emergency.
Luxury footwear label Sergio Rossi has chosen to support the Fatebenefratelli and Luigi Sacco hospitals in Milan, donating €100,000 to the cause. Additionally, from March 14 to March 20, 100 per cent of sales at sergiorossi.com will be donated to fight against the coronavirus.
