Givenchy Unveils 'Flying Pig' Chinese New Year Capsule
Aside from Alessandro Michele and Maria Grazia Chiuri, Clare Waight Keller is one of the more superstitious designers of today. So far, her tenure at Givenchy has been peppered with references to the mystical, exemplfied in her astrology-themed jewellery line unveiled last Fall, or her Spring 2019 collection, which featured shirts emblazoned with a lion (a nod to Waight Keller's horoscope sign).
As Givenchy's new Flying Pig capsule shows us, her fascination with the zodiac isn't limited to Western beliefs. To honour the Chinese Year of the Pig, the collection includes an array of jewellery, ready-to-wear pieces and accessories featuring the lucky animal.
Waight Keller's pig motif comes with a pair of flaming wings, adding a tongue-in-cheek twist that we've seen in Gucci's CNY collection. Appearing across a range of casual, streetwear-inspired pieces (think jackets, hoodies, sweatshirts and T-shirts), wallets and pouches for both men and women, the winged pig print is also adorned with stars and the message, "Thank your lucky stars."
For those who'd like to bling it up this Chinese New Year, Givenchy has also unveiled a gold-finish bracelet and necklace that comes with a pig pendant. This time, our porcine friend is paired with a heart-shaped garnet stone, infusing it with "extra energy". Whether or not you take Givenchy's word for it, these pieces are beautiful enough for us to want our own.
