From Paris With Love: Dior's 30 Montaigne Bag
If walls could talk, then those of 30 Avenue Montaigne would certainly have a lot to say. The headquarters of Dior since the maison’s founding in the late 1940s, it has been privy to all of the brand’s secrets, from the reign of Monsieur Dior himself to current creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri. This storied history is the inspiration behind the 30 Montaigne collection launched earlier this year, which distils some of the house’s most iconic looks into a contemporary wardrobe for the modern woman, spanning pieces like a double-breasted Bar jacket, a pleated tulle skirt, and of course, the 30 Montaigne bag.
First introduced during Pre-Fall 2019, the bag returns for the Cruise 2020 season in new colours, materials, and finishings. With a structured silhouette, single flap, and sizeable interior, the design features the initials ‘CD’ (for Christian Dior, naturally) as an oversized clasp on the front, while the collection’s signature is discreetly embossed on the back. An adjustable strap in leather and gold chain allows the bag to be carried in multiple ways, making it as versatile as you are.
This season’s new styles include a beige calfskin version beautifully embroidered with pink flowers, yellow sunbeams, and a scarlet phoenix in flight (perfect for Chinese New Year), along with an unusual crinkled lambskin edition in blush pink, and a braided black variant that resembles woven rattan. The shoulder bag also comes with stamped grain patterns or threaded edges in black and white calfskin, as well as in the famed Dior Oblique canvas.
