Lucky Star: The New Rose Céleste Collection From Dior

Victoire de Castellane has designed a series of jewellery centred on the sun and moon that pays tribute to the superstitious nature of the maison’s founding father

Christian Dior may have been one of the most celebrated couturiers of the 20th century, but he was also an exceedingly shy and anxious man who relied a great deal on superstition. The couturier carried several talismans everywhere with him for good luck, and would consult his clairvoyant Madame Delahaye before making any decision. This facet of his personality is the inspiration behind the maison’s new Rose Céleste jewellery collection, which pays homage to his passion for the divinatory arts by focusing on the two most symbolic heavenly bodies – the sun and the moon.

Dreamt up by creative director Victoire de Castellane, the key design features a half-hidden, smiling sun radiating beams of light on one side, while a sleepy crescent moon and twinkling stars adorn the other. Crafted from mother-of-pearl, onyx, and white gold, and surrounded by haloes of yellow gold, the motif appears on rings, bracelets, earrings, and pendants, as well as the La D De Dior watch.
