Master Of Disguise: Dior Cruise 2020 Camouflage
Think of camouflage, and what comes to mind would likely be military uniforms or ’90s-era cargo pants. Not exactly the epitome of style, unless it happens to be Dior. For the Cruise 2020 season, the French house proves that camouflage can be both chic and classy, embracing the print (but not as you know it) as an essential ingredient for the collection.
Titled “Common Ground”, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri attempts to find just that through the medium of fashion – of textiles, to be specific. Presented this past April in Marrakech, the collection is set apart by its melting pot of elements, from African wax print fabrics to Italian weaving techniques and French toile de jouy.
Making use of fil coupé jacquard – a couture signature that embodies the maison’s savoir-faire – and dipped in shades of midnight blue or earth-toned khaki, the Dior version of camouflage swathes several classic house designs, including the Mini Book Tote, the Saddle, and the Diorcamp messenger bag, as well as the Nomad-D boots and reversible bob hats by Stephen Jones. Be warned though, these pieces are meant for standing out, not blending in.
