Fendi's Dawn of Romanity: Haute Couture FW19
Set against the romantic backdrop of the Palatine Hills in Rome, Silvia Venturini Fendi presented an haute couture collection inspired by the metamorphic splendour of one of nature’s imperfect wonders- Marble. A nod to the late Karl Lagerfeld, who was with the house for 54 years, there were a total of 54 looks for the evening, most of which were the brainchild of archive sketches by Lagerfeld himself, which formed the main elements of the collection itself with sweeping lines, ample drapes a lá empress dresses, tucked shoulders and graphic décolleté.
The collection saw plenty of light embroidered coats, lattice leatherwork and "marble'-striped mink, along with pencil skirts, blouses and palazzo trousers in silk moiré and marbled gazar, were spotted on the runway.
Opulent bishop-sleeve gowns featuring feathered petals, grids of octagon beading and sheaves of raffia were also a highlight, bearing Lagerfeld's iconic tucked shoulders. Key accessories as seen on the runway include fur baguette bags, transparent sandals and boots.
The show was also attended by many A-list actors and actresses, influencers and style icons, all of whom flanked the front row; such as Caro Daur, Jenn Im, Jason Momoa and his wife Lilakoi Moon, Catherine-Zeta Jones with her daughter Carys Douglas, Zendaya and more.
