Paris Meets Santa Monica: Dior Resort 2018

The house of Dior decamped to California for its boho-lite presentation

The raw, unbridled power of the beasts depicted in the Lascaux cave paintings in Dordogne, southwestern France was an unlikely inspiration for Christian Dior, the man who made delicate flowers of women; nevertheless in 1951 the designer dedicated a collection to the site.

For Cruise 2018, Maria Grazia Chiuri once again channelled the animalistic power of pre-historic man, creating ochre-gold silk jacquards adorned with female handprints and horses, sequined embroideries of desert flowers.

Looking as well to the wardrobe of Georgia O’Keeffe and the tarot deck as interpreted by shaman Vicki Noble — a common point of interest between Christian Dior and Maria Grazia Chiuri — the collection was a potent marriage of mother nature’s wilderness and Parisian chic.
