Dior Autumn/Winter 2017-2018
In her debut ready-to-wear collection for Dior last October, feminism was Maria Grazia Chiuri's calling card. For this season, however, it seems that that same message is more relevant than ever - albeit in a darker, more mysterious shade of blue.
Exploring the colour in all its nuances, Chiuri sent out a collection that was almost militaristic in nature: girls marching down the runway wearing black leather berets, tightly-belted trenchcoats, factory-worker overalls, boiler suits, and double denim ensembles with distinct Rosie the Riveter vibes. But as expected, Churi counteracted the boyishness with splashes of femininity: a balanced mix of utility and pretty presented with a lineup of sumptuous velvet pieces, light-as-air taffeta and tulle bustier dresses, and a continuation of constellation-themed embroidery she first introduced for Spring/Summer.
