Fresh off a landmark year that saw Bottega Veneta rise to become one of the hottest commodities in the industry (taking home a record four wins at the British Fashion Awards, no less), the Italian house has unveiled its latest collection for the Pre-Fall 2020 season, ripe with looks that are sure to be a fixture in the frow and on the streets in the coming months, if not years. Silhouettes are softer than ever before, and infused with a sporty sensibility, while still retaining the sophistication and sensuality at the heart of the brand’s DNA.

Straight-forward. Bold and confident. Subtly elevated. Pre-Fall 2020 celebrates Bottega’s heritage made relevant for today,” commented creative director Daniel Lee.

Elements that have evolved into house codes under the aegis of Lee make expected appearances in unexpected ways: the signature intrecciato pattern surfaces on puffer jackets, curb-stomping boots, and furry coats; chains are supersized and draped across quilted bags and plunging necklines; and mirrored mosaics adorn halter neck tops, dresses, and flared trousers. Exaggerated fringing, knotted details, and ruching add a touch of playfulness, while surprising pops of red, blue, yellow, pink, and white move away from the usual dark tones for a more youthful feel.

Some of Lee’s biggest hits so far have been on the accessories front, like the now-iconic Pouch and the Lido sandals, and as such it is perhaps no surprise that the Pre-Fall 2020 collection should serve up a few more major looks. There’s an oversized version of the Shoulder Pouch that bucks the tiny bag trend and comes in an intriguing crinkled material not unlike crumpled paper, along with a jumbo-sized furry tote that is at once chic and cuddly. One design that has already gone viral on the internet is an unusual macramé-style weave applied to open-toed mules, open-backed boots, and a clutch, which bears an uncanny resemblance to uncooked ramen noodles.
