Gucci Teams Up With Harmony Korine For Its New Limited Edition Book

The maison's new book, set in Ercolano and Pompei, continues the brand's effort to promote world heritage sites.

Gucci has released a limited edition book, Gucci by Harmony Korine, a meaningful collection of imagery featuring creative designer Alessandro Michele's Pre-Fall 2019 collection.

This book is a collaboration with American film director, artist and screenwriter Harmony Korine, and set against Herculaneum and Pompeii (now known as Ercolano and Pompei respectively), in the Campania region of Southern Italy.

Korine personally illustrated the front and back covers of the book, and his imagery adorns the slipcase it book comes in. Another interesting detail to note is the spine of the book, which is made such that 5 book spines form an image when placed beside each other, as shown above.

This book goes toward Gucci's continued effort to support artistic and cultural heritage around the world - the sites the book is set in, chosen by Michele, are both UNESCO World Heritage Site, specially chosen because of the designer's belief that the past is necessary for understanding and visualizing the future, and should not be forgotten or abandoned.

This picks up from Gucci's previous initiatives, including partnerships the Maison has had with the Dia-art Foundation in New York City and the Cloisters at Westminster Abbey, just to name a few.

Gucci by Harmony Korine will be distributed by the independent London-based publisher IDEA books at the start of June. It will also be available from the Gucci Garden in Florence, Italy, and the Gucci Wooster Bookstore in New York.
