&lsquo;90s kids, rejoice and get ready to experience some good old fashioned nostalgia, courtesy of our pop-punk princess, Avril Lavigne.

Ask and she&rsquo;ll deliver; Avril Lavigne is bringing back her classic hit in a way you&rsquo;ve never seen before. With the 20th anniversary of the song just around the corner, the singer has decided on another format to celebrate the cultural phenomenon of &lsquo;Sk8er Boi&rsquo;.&nbsp;
In an interview with iHeartRadio podcast &ndash;&nbsp;&lsquo;She is the Voice&rsquo;, Lavigne gushed about the popularity and significance of the song to the general mass public. &ldquo;Recently with it being almost the 20th anniversary, a lot of people have been asking me to play this song on some TV shows, so it keeps getting brought back up and people will always reference it to me,&rdquo; says Lavigne. &ldquo;And so, I&rsquo;m actually going to turn this song into a film and take it to the next level.&rdquo;

The singer then goes on to delve deeper into her thought process behind the project. &ldquo;You know what it was like in high school, you have all the different groups and cliques, and there&rsquo;s like skaters, preps, jocks,&rdquo; Lavigne continues. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s kind of like a missed opportunity at love. The skater boy is in love with the preppy girl, but like she&rsquo;s too cool for him. But then five years from now she&rsquo;s feeding the baby and she&rsquo;s all alone and she wishes she would have followed her heart and not tried to live up to society&rsquo;s expectations.&rdquo;&nbsp;
And we have no doubt that this story arc will do well as a film. After all, her storytelling in song format did win her multiple awards and even got her nominated for a Grammy back in 2003. Not to mention, it is the trope of most successful romantic comedies. Think Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles&rsquo; &lsquo;10 Things I Hate About You&rsquo;, Shane West and Mandy Moore&rsquo;s &lsquo;A Walk to Remember&rsquo;, and more. Lavigne&rsquo;s &lsquo;Sk8er Boi&rsquo; protagonists are sure to join the never-ending list of popular east-meets-west couples already held dear to us in film, with a more realistic ending.&nbsp;

Although Lavigne did not particularly disclose any additional details about the upcoming movie, it&rsquo;s safe to assume that the project will not be in the works until her upcoming &lsquo;Bite Me&rsquo; Tour ends in March next year.&nbsp;
