Recreate the Porcelain Doll Look from Maison Margiela's Couture Show
Makeup artist Pat McGrath has finally unveiled the process behind the viral makeup look in her latest Instagram post. Here's how you can recreate it.
It's been two days since Maison Margiela showcased its Artisanal 2024 Collection by John Galliano and the Internet is still buzzing over its game-changing makeup choices. Of course, that's not surprising to us or anyone in the beauty industry, considering they were crafted by Pat McGrath, the "mother of modern makeup", herself.
The show's pristine porcelain doll makeup looks debuted across the runway at Paris Fashion Week, with models showcasing variations of the retro-esque pastel eyeshadow, pencil-thin brows and shimmering glass skin deliberately chosen to complement Galliano's collection.
The look has since gone viral across all social media platforms, with many trying their hand at McGrath's creation from their homes. To achieve the glossy finish Margiela's models spotted on the runway, creatives fled to purchase peelable products like masks and liquid latex (particularly Kryolan Liquid Glass that dries like a transparent film) to recreate the vision, even going as far as to sell out Kryolan's product within a day.
Although it does achieve quite a similar effect to McGrath's, it's since been confirmed by the artist that Kryolan was not the secret ingredient used to get the glass finish everyone's been raving over. And with that ruled out, we're back to square one until McGrath reveals her secret soon.
As for the rest of the look, McGrath and her team used the following products to craft the porcelain doll makeup, sans glass skin: Pat McGrath Labs' Divine Skin in Rose 001™ The Essence, Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation, Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Concealer, Mothership I: Subliminal ‘BLITZ BLUE’ & ‘XTREME BLACK’, Mothership VI: Midnight Sun ‘BLITZ VIOLET ORCHID’ & ‘XTREME DUSK’, MTHRSHP Mega: Celestial Nirvana ‘DESERT DIVINITY’, Divine Blush: Legendary Glow Colour Balm, PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil ‘XTREME BLACK’, and MatteTrance Lipstick ‘GUINEVERE’.
