How to Recreate the Frosted Makeup Trend

This 2024, we're keeping it icy

The start of the year always sees the resurgence of the '90s frosted makeup trend, possibly due to the cold, rainy weather in Singapore that's as close to winter as we can possibly get. Much like our counterparts in wintery territories like the United States, United Kingdom and so on, it seems to be a universal experience to opt for beauty looks that reflect our surroundings.

As such, the frosted look has made its highly anticipated comeback. Made popular by '90s It girls such as Britney Spears, Pamela Anderson, Jessica Simpson and more back in the day, here's how you can recreate these iconic looks for your nights out with the girls this 2024.

To get the look, you'll need three important products: concealer or a trusty eyeshadow primer, a good brush and a refined shimmer of your choice. First, apply the concealer or primer to your eyelids. Suppose you have hyperpigmentation surrounding the eye and require a lighter base to layer your glitter on afterwards; in that case, we recommend using a concealer (that's of a fairer shade than your usual) first to create the perfect canvas.

Next, pick a shimmery cool-toned eyeshadow shade to pack onto your lids. If you're going for a more over-the-top look like Lily-Rose Depp, use your finger to apply the pigment and make sure to blend it out well with a fluffier brush. However, if you're going for a more condensed eye makeup look like Britney Spears, apply your product with an eyeliner brush instead. To make it pop, add a silver shimmer to the inner corner of your eyes and voilà, you're done!

Frosted Lips

These '90s glitz lips are the perfect companion to the frosted eyeshadow look if you've got a pink undertone or darker skin. We don't recommend doing both frosted eyeshadow and lips in one go if you've got a yellow undertone as the combination may wash you out. Instead, pick one or the other, and play around with it.

There are two ways you can do this trend. As for the easiest, you'll just need to invest in a nude-toned lip liner and lipstick with shimmery metallic hues like MAC's Frost Lipstick. Line your lips with a liner that's as close to your skin tone as possible and glide the lipstick over it. Add a gloss over if you're wearing it out at night for it to really stand out.

An alternative method, and possibly our favourite one of all, is courtesy of makeup artist Alyssa Lorraine. First, apply any sheer pink lipstick on your lips to act as your base. Next, dip a narrow brush into a silver or pink-hued highlighter (she uses Fenty Beauty's Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Wattabrat) and layer it over the middle section of your lips. Once set, run a gloss over and you're good to go.
