Beauty Chat with Celebrity Makeup Artist Hung Vanngo
They say if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But there are always exceptions. Marc Jacobs Beauty has one-upped itself with new and improved eyeshadows in six luxurious palettes.
Inspired by fashion, Marc Jacobs created the Eye-conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palettes ($69), each containing four different textures: buttery matte, velvet, shimmering satin, sparkling silk, and metallic lamé. Each palette features a covetable mix of seven shades with a velvety rich pigment. And in keeping with Marc’s vibe, all their names are beyond cool: think Provocouture (plum and magenta shades), Scandalust (rust and warmed browns with scarlet tones), Glambition (bronze shades), Edgitorial (reflective gold shades), Frivoluxe (chilled greige and violet hues), and Smartorial (celestial cobalt and icy teal with prismatic greys).
One who is no stranger to high-octane beauty looks is the brand’s Global Artistry Ambassador, Hung Vanngo. The maestro is easily one of the hottest, most in-demand makeup artists of late – his star-studded client list includes Selena Gomez, Giselle Bündchen, Karlie Kloss, Emily Ratajowski, and naturally, the face of Marc Jacobs Beauty, Kaia Gerber.
In town recently for the global launch of the Eye-conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palettes, Hung shared tips on how to nail his signature 'no-makeup' makeup look.
What do you love most about the new Eye-conic palettes?
All the palettes are very neutral and easy to wear but each also has a “pop” colour, like a gold or a purple. Each palette will have all four new textures, and each shade is so pigmented and so easy to blend and apply – they’re amazing. On top of that, we’re also launching a new Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Eye Primer and three new eye brushes, which are all perfect for creating a smoky eye.
Do you have any tips or must-have products to nail your signature no-makeup makeup look?
I think everyone should have the Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in a beautiful soft colour like Ro(Cocoa) or Brownie. Just blend it out and this defines the eyes without looking too heavy. I also love our Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara – I mean everyone needs a little lift with mascara. And our New Nudes Sheer Gel Lipstick in soft colours like In The Mood. I love using the Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter mixed in with primer or foundation, for glowy, healthy looking skin.
How do you adapt it for Fall?
I think the best way to do no-makeup makeup this season is with a pop of colour. It can be a nice gloss or a bright lip. Or just a little bit of bright coloured eyeliner. It makes your makeup a bit more interesting.
