Marc Jacobs Fall 2017
In the glitz, glam, and excessive showmanship that typically define every Fashion Week, Marc Jacobs dared to be different. No music. No set. No frills – just a runway show stripped down to the bare essentials.
Citing documentary series Hip-Hop Evolution as his inspiration, the designer presented a striking collection that is his "representation of the well-studied dressing up of casual sportswear." Fur-collared coats interspersed with slouchy sweaters and track pants dominated the runway in a warm neutral palette of camel, ginger, gold, and maroon. In an ode to the early hip-hop cultural movement, accessories were aplenty: Andre 3000-style hats by milliner Stephen Jones, chunky platform boots, and of course, bling – plenty of bling in the form of gilded mice pendants swinging from heavy gold chains.
