How to Achieve Barely-There, Luminous Makeup, According to Dior
With humid temperatures, we certainly favour light formulas and barely-there, natural makeup, more than anything. This was the very inspiration behind the looks for Dior’s recent Cruise 2021 show, organised earlier in Puglia, Italy. We spoke to the Creative and Image Director of Dior Makeup, Peter Philips, who was responsible for the natural looking and luminous makeup looks for the show.
" For the young woman with a natural beauty, I favoured the luminosity and transparency of the complexion as well as a slightly emphasized and subtly intensified gaze ", says Philips, on the sidelines of the Cruise 2021 show organized behind closed doors in Puglia, the land that holds close to heart of Maria Grazia Chiuri. This favoured look ties in to the trend that comes in the height of the summer season: swapping a "full glamour" look for a more natural appearance. Here's how to copy the beauty look of the show in 4 quick and easy steps.
The eyes
" To intensify the look while remaining natural, I curled the eyelashes on the upper eyelid swith a layer of the new Diorshow Iconic Overcurl 090 Black ", explains the Belgian makeup artist. “This allows me to open the eyes without overly dramatic effect that is easily achievable"
Then, to structure the eyebrows, he used the Diorshow Brow Styler and the Diorshow Pump 'N' Brow, choosing the shade according to skin tone.
Complexion
" A hyper natural complexion is first prepped with the DIOR Capture Totale C.E.L.L. ENERGY Super Potent Serum, followed by Capture Totale CELL Energy Face Cream ", explains Philips . Then, we opt for the Dior Backstage Face & Body Primer 001 Universal which helps to blur the skin over any imperfections. We finished by applying the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation. For touch-ups, we will bet on Dior Forever Skin Correct while respecting its complexion.
The mouth
"To obtain the effect of plumped natural lips, the lips are first prepared with the Dior Lip Sugar Scrub 001 which smoothens the lips, and are then enhanced with Dior Lip Maximizer 001 Pink, whose shine I blended in with a handkerchief."
The hair
Finally, the hair is kept natural or sometimes covered with a lace scarf, or even embellished with a delicate floral tiara.
