Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are Getting Divorced After 6 Years of Marriage
Tuesday evening, PageSix reported that multiple sources have confirmed that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are getting a divorce. The couple were noticably separate over the holidays as the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star joined her family for their vacation in Lake Tahoe, while her husband remained at his ranch in Wyoming. “They are keeping it low-key but they are done,” explained one unnamed source. “Kim has hired Laura Wasser and they are in settlement talks.
"The source went on to say, "Kim got Kanye to go up [to Wyoming] so they could live separate lives and quietly get things sorted out to separate and divorce. She’s done."
The couple began dating in 2012 and were married in 2014. They have four children together: North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 2, and Psalm, 1.
In recent months, Kardashian and West have experienced a number of challenges in their relationship, which the source alludes to as part of the reason for the split. "She is serious about taking the bar exam and becoming a lawyer, she is serious about her prison reform campaign. Meanwhile, Kanye is talking about running for president and saying other crazy shit, and she’s just had enough of it.”
In late July, the rapper made several accusations on Twitter, including that he had made previous attempts to divorce his wife which were blocked by the Kardashian family. He said in one of the now-deleted tweets, “I been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Warldolf for ‘prison reform.'" This was in reference to a criminal justice reform summit that Kardashian and rapper Meek Mill both attended in 2018. West also called his mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, "Kris Jung-Un." The family attributed these online outbursts as a part of West's struggle with bipolar disorder.
By October, many fans believed things had calmed down between the couple after West surprised Kardashian on her brithday beach trip with a hologram of her late father. However, it seems it was not as warm an exchange as it seemed online. According to the source, “He showed up late and left early, he wouldn’t appear in any of their Instagram shots. All he did was bring over the hologram of her father Robert Kardashian, then got out of there as fast as he could."
As for the specifics of the divorce settlement, the source believes their Calabasas home will be a major point of contention, as Kardashian legally has ownership of the land, though West owns the home. The insider explained, “Kim is trying to get Kanye to turn over the Calabasas house to her, because that’s where the kids are based and growing up. That is their home.”
Representing the KKW Beauty mogul in these precedings is attorney Laura Wasser, who was the inspiration behind Laura Dern's character in the film Marriage Story. She also represented Kardashian in her divorce from her second husband, Kris Humphries.
Neither Kardashian nor West have yet to publicly comment on the state of their marriage.
