Irina Gets Intimate: Irina Shayk On Modelling, Self-Care, And Her Dream Job

The top model and muse of lingerie brand Intimissimi sat down to answer our burning questions

What was your background as a model, and how did it all start for you?

I come from a very small town, literally located in the middle of nowhere in Russia, and I had never considered becoming a model. I started quite late, at the age of 19, and Intimissimi was the first big brand to choose me for its campaign.

You have been the muse of the brand for several years now, what are the secrets of this longevity?

You have to follow your dreams, and be honest and true to yourself. Today, fashion is more focused on charisma and personality than on a pretty face. I was fortunate to meet great people who have helped me throughout my career and Intimissimi has become a real family for me. They believed in me from the start and have always supported me.

You just attended the Intimissimi show in Verona, what did you think of it?

It was a great pleasure to see how Intimissimi has grown. I loved the idea of a cabaret: it was spectacular and it reflected the image of Intimissimi. It was a great celebration of female beauty in the heart of Italy.

You are close to several major Italian brands and designers, from Versace to Riccardo Tisci and Intimissimi. What attracts you to Italian culture?

I have a lot of Italian friends in business and in life, and I think Italian culture is very close to Russian culture. Italians have a big heart, they are very open and frank, and I really like that in people.

We saw you everywhere during fashion week, from Milan to Paris and New York. What are your best memories?

The most memorable moment for me was the Burberry show. Riccardo (Tisci) is my friend and each new collection is different. I am always amazed at how multi-faceted his creativity is.

What are some of your self-care secrets?

A Russian bath once a week. This helps to get rid of all the stress and negative emotions.

If you had to change jobs, which direction would you want to take?

I would probably go into journalism or teaching, as those were my dream jobs when I was at school. But I couldn't wish for a better job than the one I have now - modelling.

If you had choose just one piece of lingerie from the new Intimissimi collection, which one would it be?

I would choose the nude silk bra with matching underwear. It is so elegant.

What are your plans for 2020?

I have a lot of exciting ones. 2020 will be an amazing and special year.
