The artsy Amsterdam apartment of model and artist Lois Schindeler

For her interior, 26-year-old Lois Schindeler tries to draw inspiration from a feeling, often a kind of serenity and perhaps also a tad mysterious. She looks a lot at old tribal art and likes it when something (seems) to have the soul of something old. But she also looks at big names such as Picasso and Jean Arp. Logical, when you see what a talented artist she is.

That is exactly what she is most proud of: her first major assignment. A large work of 1m by 1.60m. She sent the work to Paris, where it now hangs in a beautiful apartment. "I find the feeling that someone has something of me hanging there and has gone into this process with me!", says Lois.

But what of her own art does she have hanging in her apartment? Today we take a look inside her beautiful Amsterdam home.

How would you describe your own interior style?

Scandinavian, playful, fresh, warm.

What is an item in the house that is Lois all the time? And why?

I think my large canvas behind the dining area, quite a statement piece due to its size, but still very serene in the room due to the colors. I like that something playful/present in a space but not screaming. Just a different touch than what you normally see.

Did you have a certain styling plan before you started working on your own interior?

Our house is very light but not that big, so we wanted to use mostly light colors and organic shapes like a round table so that everything flows better.

What should absolutely not be missing in your interior?

A very good comfortable seat haha! So the Lennon sofa from Westwing was really made for us. There's nothing better than plopping down with the two of us and the cats in the evening. Or with your friends or family, because it is so big that everyone fits on it!
