HER Planet Earth Hosts a Charity Event With a View for UN Women Vietnam
On a mission to protect the environment and empower the underprivileged women who suffer from climate change, global women’s advocacy movement HER Planet Earth took to the rooftop of the SuperTree by Indochine restaurant at Gardens by the Bay for its cause on 6 April. Led by founder Christine Amour-Levar, HER Planet Earth hosted The Lost World, a Vietnamese-themed charity event aimed at raising funds for UN Women Vietnam.
Against a stunning backdrop of the Singapore skyline, the HER Planet Earth team were joined by Singaporean extreme sportsman Thaddeus Lawrence in sharing inspiring anecdotes of their recent expedition to Vietnam's Son Doong Cave, the largest in the world. Guests got a glimpse of the natural marvel themselves through photographer Sandra Lim's limited-edition prints, which were exhibited and auctioned off that evening. The crowd was also treated to champagne and delicious Vietnamese canapés at the jungle-themed event.
HER Planet Earth's efforts certainly paid off; The Lost World raised close to $50,000 in proceeds, all of which goes to funding UN Women Vietnam, an organization that focuses on the economic empowerment of women in rural Vietnam. According to the Global Climate Risk Index 2015, Vietnam is one of the top 10 countries most affected by climate change and disasters.
"While climate change is a global phenomenon, its impact is not spread across a level playing field," says Christine Amour-Levar. "This is why it is vital that we support programmes that empower and educate underprivileged women who are already feeling the brunt of climate change.”
