Charting The Versace Butterfly Dress: From Naomi Campbell to Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa's shimmery butterfly Versace gown was a subtle nod to the other superstars who wore it before her - spotted as early in the 90s on superstar Naomi Campbell.

Feeling butterflies? So is Dua Lipa, who wore a glamorous Versace dress on the 2021 Grammys  Awards Red Carpet. The shimmery gown was entirely encrusted with Swarovski crystals in a pastel palette and it featured side cutouts and a butterfly bodice. Proving that just one Versace is never enough, Dua sported a long enchanting version to walk on the Red Carpet and then a shorter, silvery, and sexier version of the dress for the after-party, organized by her beau Anwar Hadid at her Los Angeles home.

Feminine, sexy, colourful, and fun, the dress had butterfly details in pink, blue and white, which was paired with silver gladiator sandals. The shimmery look paid tribute to Versace's story and to the other (fearless) girls who wore it in the past. Afterall, Donatella Versace always said that her clothes are made to empower women, turning them into literal walking goddesses.

But this isn't the first time the Versace butterfly dress has made its rounds. From Naomi Campbell to Christina Aguilera, three generations of power women have worn this sparkling number.
