Now in its second year running, the Lyst Index by global fashion search platform Lyst measures the most popular brands and products of the moment, based on the online behaviour of millions of shoppers each month. Released last week, the Index shows that Bottega Veneta has made the biggest breakthrough of the past 3 months, entering the top 20 list for the first time ever. Not only so, the Italian house's quilted sandals are now the most sought after shoes by fashionistas, searched over 27,000 times a month. How did Bottega Veneta become one of the hottest brands in the world?

Founded in 1966 by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro, Bottega Veneta (which literally means 'Venetian shop' in Italian) became famous for its leather braiding technique, known as intrecciato. But the house's take understated luxury wasn't appreciated by everyone, and over the following decades the brand lost a bit of its shine.

That is, until Daniel Lee took over the helm in 2018. The young Englishman has breathed new life into the brand, with a clean aesthetic balanced at the sweet spot between classicism and modernity. Having cut his teeth at Celine under Phoebe Philo, the designer quickly conquered hearts (and credit cards) with his sharp and minimalist style.

Bottega Veneta's key designs include those quilted sandals with a square-shaped toe and fully hand-stitched finishings, the Pouch, and the Lido and Stretch shoes. Each piece has been propelled to It status, conveying a certain sense of Italian nonchalance and timeless chic. We can only wait with bated breath to see what comes next.
