Rumours have been fluttering around about who is set to replace Diane von Furstenberg as the chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), with Tom Ford at the top of the list of possible candidates. After much speculation, the rumours have been confirmed — Tom Ford is set to take over the role as chairman of the CFDA from 1 January 2020 onwards.

The American fashion designer says, "I have had the privilege of being a member of the American Fashion community for many years and have experienced what the CFDA does for its members and the industry as a whole. Having lived and worked in each of the global fashion capitals of the world, I look forward to working with the Board of Directors to further the voice of American Fashion and its designers.”

Known for his provocative, glamour-fuelled designs at Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and his own namesake label, as well as award-winning films like A Single Man and Nocturnal Animals, Tom Ford aims to continue to make leaps and bounds for the American fashion industry.

Diane von Furstenberg will chair the seat for one final year before stepping down, marking this as her 13th year as the chairman.
