TOD'S Spring/Summer 24 Women's Collection Honours Italian Artistry
Tod's celebrates the essence of Italian craftsmanship, a core value for the brand, while fully embracing the captivating atmosphere of the upcoming Don Carlos production set to premiere at Teatro alla Scala in December.
For the unveiling of their Spring/Summer 2024 Collection, Tod’s has selected the Laboratori Scala Ansaldo, a location that epitomizes the pinnacle of Italian craftsmanship. Here, scenographers, sculptors, and carpenters craft the remarkable set designs for Teatro alla Scala. Similarly, Tod’s craftsmen produce top-tier collections in this very place.
Walter Chiapponi, who presents his final show as the Creative Director of Tod’s, has curated a collection that represents the culmination of a deep journey into the essence of design and the finesse of Italian craftsmanship. The creation of each piece emphasizes the precision of the cut, the magnitude of the volume, and the superior quality of materials. The collection draws inspiration from men's fashion and the minimalist trends of the 1990s, yet reimagines it with a feminine touch, where every classically tailored outfit is enhanced with softness and flow.
The suits feature expansive pleated pants and jackets without collars, crafted in airy, relaxed fabrics and boasting an unlined, deconstructed feel. The tailored vest is reimagined as a sultry statement piece, especially when paired with bare skin. The quintessential trench coat from Tod’s collection is redesigned with translucent materials and pale-hued leather.
The blouson, available in both delicate cotton and supple nappa leather, exudes freshness. A poplin T-shirt with kimono-styled sleeves, paired with a versatile wide belt that enhances many outfits, is enticing. The pleated patchwork skirt radiates charm, while the crochet-styled knitwear in vibrant contrasting shades offers a touchable, handcrafted appeal.
The palette primarily revolves around natural hues like écru, camel, tobacco, and burnt shades, reminiscent of the iconic leather tones synonymous with Tod’s. These are set off with bursts of lime green.
Materials remain consistently light and supple, including fabrics like viscose, linen gauze, see-through cool wool, and ultra-smooth nappa leather.
The bags that enhance each ensemble are simplistic, transforming into coveted items due to their essential form, dictated by the leather and structure. The signature Di Bag comes seamless and elongated, while the T Timeless bags feature embossed leather. The novel, geometrically shaped Tod's T-Box bag is crafted in sleek leather, secured with a metallic T clasp. The newly introduced shopping bag combines fabric and leather and takes its shape based on its carrier.
Italian shoemaking expertise has consistently been the heart of Tod's endeavors, marrying traditional craftsmanship with innovation for the younger audience. This season, the classic male moccasin serves as the inspiration, leading to a deep dive into feminine designs. The famed Gommino takes center stage, especially in its bubble-soled, premium leather variant. Ballet flats, mules, and the newly-introduced braided sandals, which come with a subtle minimalist heel and gentle hues, round out the collection.
Employing luxurious and unique leathers underscores Tod's commitment to showcasing the pinnacle of Italian craftsmanship and quality.
