The Onitsuka Tiger and Urusei Yatsura Collaboration Unites Anime and Streetwear
Intertwining the two different cultures, the anime-themed collection fuses fashion with sports and heritage with innovation.
After making its name as one of the iconic manga series of all time, Urusei Yatsura has made its return with a 46-episode anime series in October 2022. Alongside the release of the series, Onitsuka Tiger has announced a special crossover, consisting of unique merch that emboldens the heritage of both, as well as a special movie dedicated to this partnership anew.
The sneaker house has worked closely on the character’s costumes. In the first episode, the main character Ataru Moroboshi dons the iconic Onitsuka model, Mexico 66, in one of the most symbolic scenes of the anime. In the third episode, we saw Lum, the heroine of the series, sporting a pair of shoes exclusively designed for the show, based on the unique Delecity style.
The brand and manga team up for a special collaboration that includes a pair of Delecity shoes inspired by Lum’s tiger-striped outfit. The yellow all-leather canvas is decorated with black tiger stripes, with co-branded details on the tongue, heel and insoles of the footwear. As a nod to the collaboration, an animated short film with a completely original storyline produced by David Production Inc. will also be made available online. The video follows the two main characters, Ataru and Lum at an Onitsuka Tiger Store in Neo Shibuya.
Retailing at $380, the Delecity – featuring the Tiger pattern that characterises both Onitsuka Tiger and Urusei Yatsura – will be sold in a limited edition of 700 pairs in 15 countries around the world, with only 30 pairs available for purchase at the Onitsuka Tiger flagship store in Takashimaya S.C. and on the Onitsuka Tiger website.
