The 2 Moncler 1952 Collection Is The Right Blend Of Elegance And Decadence
Since its inception, Moncler’s groundbreaking Genius project has attested to the notion that collaboration, not competition, is the key to real innovation — summed up in the motto, “One House, Different Voices”. Nowhere is this spirit more evident than in 2 Moncler 1952, where design duties are split and shared between two creatives, with Sergio Zambon tackling menswear and Veronica Leoni guiding a playful but powerful vision for women.
Unveiled during Milan Fashion Week this past February, Leoni’s third outing for the Franco-Italian brand arises from her imagining a wardrobe for an army of women fighting to return to a lost paradise. Imbued with a decidedly feminine flair, the collection harks back to the exoticism that marked the turn of the 20th century, merging the utilitarian with the languid in a manner evocative of elegance and decadence as well as empowerment.
Moncler’s signature puffer is revisited in a series of exaggerated jackets that play with balloon silhouettes and kimono elements, while belted greatcoats lean towards sharp tailoring. Edwardian devoré skirts, mohair and chenille sweaters, and form-fitting knits offer plenty opportunity for layering shapes, textures, and lengths.
A neutral palette of black, tan, chocolate, and navy nods to military uniforms, while flashes of fiery red, thulian pink, and sky blue add a counterbalance of levity. Accessories consist of chunky-soled boots with chain details, oversized bangles, padded headscarves, and tubular bags in nappa leather or nylon.
"It's all about femininity and elegance, with a twistedly practical angle," explains Veronica Leoni. "I am particularly proud of the collaboration with gender equality group Girl Up on a special item with the slogan: IT'S HER RIGHT'."
You may not be able to jet off to colder climes just yet, but the upside is the 2 Moncler 1952 collection drops September 3 in stores and online, so you’ll be more than prepared when the time comes.
