Small Talk: The New Mini Bags From Longchamp
Bigger doesn’t always mean better, or so it seems for Longchamp. The French luxury house gives its take on the mini bag trend with new extra-small and extra-cute versions of its most iconic leather lines – La Voyageuse, Roseau, Cavalcade, and Le Pliage Cuir. Part of the Spring/Summer 2020 collection by Sophie Delafontaine, these petite pieces are at once sweet and statuesque.
Imbued with the spirit of travel and inspired by vintage vanity cases, La Voyageuse debuted earlier this year and found immediate success with its sleek silhouette and sophisticated details, such as maxi-chapes shaped like gothic arches and tapered rivets for a 3D effect. Shrunk down to miniature proportions, the XS version retains these essential elements, and comes in either the all-over LGP monogram or plain leather in black, blue, red, and beige.
First introduced in the ‘90s, the Roseau series is made distinctive with its characteristic bamboo-inspired toggle (roseau means ‘reed’ in French). This season, the Roseau is updated with a larger toggle, silver hardware, and thicker handles, not to mention more compact proportions and fresh colourways like bright orange, cobalt blue, rich burgundy, and mottled grey snakeskin. The bag is available as a mini top-handle tote with a removable shoulder strap or mini bucket bag with a drawstring closure.
For a design that’s a touch more youthful, look no further than the Cavalcade. Shaped like a semi-circle, this saddle bag style showcases an innovative clasp shaped like a lock and engraved with the brand’s name. The micro variant is crafted from reptile-embossed calf leather in black, grey, crimson, or tri-toned snakeskin.
Perhaps the most recognisable of all Longchamp bags, Le Pliage has been the maison’s bread and butter since it debuted almost three decades ago, and the new extra-small renditions are sure to be just as popular. Choose from alligator-embossed leather or plain leather stamped with the graphic LGP in a wide range of colours.
