Sarah Burton Is The New Givenchy Creative Director
Givenchy announces that Sarah Burton is the house's new Creative Director. The British designer, who spent her entire career at Alexander McQueen in London, becomes Givenchy's eighth designer. She is the Maison's second female couturier.
The game of musical chairs for creatives at fashion houses continues with the new appointment of Sarah Burton as the new Creative Director of Givenchy. The designer will begin work at the Avenue George V ateliers this week, and her first collection for Givenchy will be shown during Paris Fashion Week in March 2025.
"Sarah Burton is an exceptional creative talent, whom I have followed with passion for many years. I am very happy that she is joining Givenchy today," said Sidney Toledano, chairman of the board of directors of Givenchy. Founded by the visionary Hubert de Givenchy in 1952, when he was just 24 years old, the French brand has distinguished itself as a symbol of French elegance. After the designer's retirement in 1995, John Galliano took over the creative reins of the brand before passing it into the hands of Alexander McQueen who created his first haute couture collection. In 2001, Julien McDonald brought his glitzy and glamorous approach to the brand. Then in 2005, Riccardo Tisci led the house in a completely more urban and contemporary direction, followed by Clare Waight Keller and most recently, Matthew M. Williams. We'll just have to wait until March 2025 to discover Sarah Burton's new creative direction with her first women's fashion show for Fall/Winter 2025.
