Explore Matthew Williams' last creative venture at Givenchy, where he redefined sophistication, delved into innovative materials, and reshaped silhouettes.
The announcement of Matthew Williams departing as Givenchy's creative director in January 2024 marks the culmination of a three-year partnership. Williams expressed his gratitude, stating, "Taking the helm at Givenchy fulfilled a lifelong ambition. Over these years, I've honoured Mr. Hubert de Givenchy's legacy while infusing it with my creative vision. I'm deeply thankful to the studio, Renaud de Lesquen, and LVMH for this remarkable opportunity."
Williams' tenure saw a transformative blend of contemporary flair and timeless elegance infused into Givenchy's traditional designs. Moving forward, he aims to concentrate on nurturing his personal brand, 1017 Alyx 9sm. While Givenchy hasn't disclosed his successor, the brand recently showcased Williams' final collection as creative director.
In prior interviews, Williams had emphasised his exploration of material and silhouette, themes evident throughout his tenure. The Givenchy 2024 early fall series continues this trend, showcasing a diverse array of fabrics - leather, lace, tweed, silk - intricately woven together, offering rich textures. Silhouette-wise, the focus remains on minimalist yet refined tailoring, accentuating clean lines and thoughtful detailing.
The women's collection encompasses trench coats, suspender designs, little black dresses, and blazers, creating an effortlessly chic French wardrobe. Meanwhile, the men's line spans formal to casual wear, featuring a variety of suits, leather jackets, shirts, and sports attire - timeless essentials for a modern man's daily ensemble.
