Saint Laurent's Latest Lifestyle Collection Takes Us to the Sensual Gardens of Marrakesh
What does Anthony Vaccarello's vision of a Saint Laurent summer look like? The house's latest drop offers some hints: Think warm ceramics set against a depthless expanse of sea, sinuous accessories wrought of metal and leather, and skin — lots of skin.
The Saint Laurent Rive Droite Summer collection was inspired by the vibrant city of Marrakesh, where the eponymous Yves Saint Laurent had a holiday home with his then-partner, Pierre Bergé. The fashion maven's love of the city was well-known: Archival photographs showed him in the company of his glamorous friends, his beloved bulldogs at his heel, and lounging about the warm Moroccan sun in chic kaftans. Today, Marrakesh is also the site of a museum dedicated to Laurent's legacy.
So it's no surprise that current creative director Vaccarello would return to the city for inspiration. The Saint Laurent Rive Droite Summer line brings with it a wealth of ceramics — warm, colourful, and welcome additions to any home.
The raw ceramic pieces were made by Mathilde Martin, a French artist known for the subtle nuances in her work, while the more vibrant pieces were made by the famed, 223-year-old manufacturer Emaux de Longwy.
As always, it isn't a Saint Laurent collection without a hint of sexuality; the lascivious campaign photos show just that. Vaccarello offers up a range of tactile swimwear emblazoned with the 'YSL' motif, along with several sinuous accessories shown tracing a woman's cleavage and the cant of a bare hip.
