Pure Genius: Moncler X Hiroshi Fujiwara
“One house, different voices” is the thinking behind the Moncler Genius project, which sees creative icons from across the globe designing collections for the Italian house on a rolling calendar basis. Now in its third season, the brand is stepping up its game even further with the Moncler Genius World Tour, hosting blockbuster events around the world to celebrate the launch of each new collaboration. The latest drop in the series comes courtesy of Japanese designer and polymath Hiroshi Fujiwara, otherwise known as the ‘godfather of Ura-Harajuku fashion’.
The founder of cult streetwear brand fragment design fuses Moncler’s technology and craftsmanship with his own signature style cues, like vintage and military aesthetics. Aviator and Americana references mix with Mod design and even Pokémon for a collection that is subtle yet quietly assertive, with the slogan of ‘Team Positive Force’.
Basic urban pieces like the buffalo check shirt, the teddy fleece jacket, and the sweatshirt get the Moncler piumino treatment, and a pair of unwashed selvedge jeans shows off the Japanese mastery of denim. In collaboration with Pokémon, a duvet jacket is printed with iconic game emblems, while hoodies and t-shirts feature Pikachu’s lightning-tailed silhouette. The collection is rounded out with colourful jumpers, shiny puffers, and bags in a strong palette of black and military green with electric accents.
