Prada Men's Autumn/Winter 2019
THE SPACE
Prada created a true play of lights for its runway located in the large lobby of the Deposito, a huge hall used to organize special events at the Prada Foundation in Milan. If you recall, Prada staged its Spring 2019 collection there last September.
THE COLLECTION
The Italian house took a real dive into the dark and unknown abyss this new menswear collection, taking inspiration from monsters such as Frankenstein. Miuccia Prada reunited her Addams family by opening the show with entirely black silhouettes, setting the tone of the rest of the collection.
The men wore cross-jackets and high-waisted trousers that were notably cinched at the waist with several Prada-branded leather belts. This high-waisted silhouette was the red thread of the show, allowing Miuccia Prada to play with materials and to embellish the otherwise sombre appearance of the clothes.
Take, for example, the bursts of colour, seen on vests in large knits of twisted wool, with added fur on the shoulders. Large pockets were added onto skirts and shirts, while jackets came in technical materials with expanded collars. A dark and almost military mood seems to be what Prada is feeling this winter.
