A Look Inside Burberry’s Tales of a Trench Coat Exhibition

The British house gives the public a peek into the making of its storied staple
clothing apparel coat overcoat

Held until 23 April, Burberry's new mini exhibition 'Tales of a Trench Coat' will let you in on the craftsmanship and history behind its signature trench coat at the brand's ION Orchard boutique.

Displays showcase the development of Burberry's gabardine as well the craft that takes place in the brand’s UK factories, where several generations of families have worked. A wall of tools illustrates the many steps of the trench coat's manufacture.

Longtime fans of the brand can peruse an assembly of Christopher Bailey’s most directional trenches up-close, including a kickback green lace number from Spring 2013 and a gabardine-tweed patchwork example from Fall 2012.

A section is dedicated to Burberry’s historic partnerships with pioneering explorers and aviators such as Ernest Shackleton, devotees of the brand’s high-performance gear.

Visitors can get portraits snapped in The Portrait Studio, part of the set from the brand’s most recent show that — inspired by the studio of artist Henry Moore — and transplanted in its entirety from London.

For the duration of the exhibition, clients will also have the opportunity to monogram their new Burberry trenches with hand-applied goldwork cording.
