Burberry February 2017
For Burberry's second "see-now buy-now" collection, Christopher Bailey turned to Henry Moore – one of the most celebrated British artists of the 20th century, for inspiration. “Henry Moore’s art has always loomed large in my imagination: these great, iconic figures in the British landscape, elemental sculptures that manage also to be human, soft, approachable."
The February 2017 runway show was undoubtedly Bailey's most conceptual collection for Burberry yet: in his words, "an exploration of sculpture and silhouette". On the runway, that translated to cable knits engineered to drape artfully off the shoulder, crisp poplin shirting layered with soutache lace dresses, and trenchcoats reconfigured with sculptural shoulders. Even the accessories – asymmetric leather brogues and sculpted-heel knitted ankle boots – sported an architectural slant, seamlessly melding the contradictions in Moore’s work with the timelessless of the Burberry brand.
