Olivier Theyskens can add another feather to his already well-plumed cap. The Belgian designer has just been announced as the new Artistic Director of Azzaro, and will be responsible for the women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessory lines, as well as the brand’s couture collections. He takes over from Maxime Simoëns, who has helmed Azzaro since its relaunch in 2017, and will present his first collection for the French label during the Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2020 shows in July of this year.

Since its foundation in 1967, the fashion house has stayed true to founding father Loris Azzaro’s vision of unapologetic femininity, winning the hearts of It-girls from Sophia Loren and Jane Birkin to Scarlett Johansson and Cara Delevingne with sensual and slinky silk gowns replete with intricate beading and daring cut-outs.

Armed with a wealth of experience (and a large cult following) thanks to stints at Rochas, Nina Ricci, and Theory, as well as his own self-titled label, Theyskens will bring his distinctive gothic and romantic aesthetic to the fabled workshops of Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.

“Loris Azzaro left behind a considerable, very inspiring legacy. I am excited, thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity of bringing my vision to this legendary, iconoclastic House,” Theyskens said of his appointment. “I would like to carry on this atypical universe through my collections while infusing them with my own perspective.”
